Concept: Manipura, whose Sanskrit name means “city of jewels”, is the third chakra. Symbolically situated in the region of the navel, it is associated with the element Fire and represented as a ten-petalled lotus; its seed mantra is RAM. In tantric symbolism, fire is a force of transformation and assimilation: it converts what is received into vital energy. Contemporary interpretations also associate Manipura with will, personal identity and the capacity to act.

In the ART OF THE SPIRIT, solar implosion is an inward movement through which the Sun is received into oneself and allowed to radiate from within. The fire of Manipura assimilates its power and symbolically diffuses it, cell by cell, until it permeates the entire body.

Light no longer comes solely from an external source, but manifests as an inner presence. The body is no longer merely matter receiving light: it becomes a radiant body, a place in which energy and consciousness meet and are transmitted.

Manipura thus becomes the centre of an embodied radiance. The individual receives the solar force, allows it to act within and radiates it into the world through the quality of their presence and actions.
