The spiritual in art is ART OF THE SPIRIT

Mya Lurgo develops her practice within THE SPIRITUAL IN ART, exploring the relationship between matter and consciousness through painting, Light & Land Art, digital art, video, and performance.

Her research, developed over more than thirty years, arises from a state of presence in which the work emerges as the result of an alignment between the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions. It unfolds as an investigation into light and immateriality, in dialogue with the work of Yves Klein and the critical line of Pierre Restany.

In 2007, she developed the concept of Acentrism, a practice aimed at deconditioning creation and perception from centralising systems, opening to a non-circular, spiral dynamic.

Her formation follows a non-conventional path, intertwining different fields of research in an interdisciplinary approach.

This trajectory now converges in THE ART OF THE SPIRIT, understood as an operative practice in which the work functions as a space for the activation of presence and consciousness.

ART OF THE SPIRIT

ART OF THE SPIRIT defines the current field of my research. It does not necessarily coincide with the immaterial or the conceptual, but with a creative act that arises from an integral alignment of the human being: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

Refined over time, this alignment has stabilised a connection with expanded states of consciousness, making accessible precise operative qualities: integrity, coherence, well-being and a form of effortless concentration, close to an openness to intuitive grace. It is no longer a sporadic event, but a method that originates in acentrism, develops through the integral alignment of the levels of being and through meditative writing, leading to the activation of a personal archetype: a psycho-physical configuration that renders the body and subtle levels permeable to intuition.

METHOD AND ACENTRISM

This modus operandi, preceding production, generates expressive languages as necessary outcomes of a state, rather than as formal choices. Painting, light, word and moving image emerge within a continuous transformation. Each work takes shape as an active field: a perceptual threshold where a seed may be deposited, a vision activated, a passage made possible.

This téchne finds its roots in Acentrism, presented in 2007 (Bellati Editore): an orientation that does not deny the centre, but deconditions existence and creation from centralising “isms” — systems, dogmas, schemes — responsible for perceptual automatisms and evolutionary stagnation.

This liberation from the egoic circumference activates a spiral movement, open and non-repetitive.

In operative terms, acentrism has translated into radical practices: scraping the pictorial surface back to its original condition and burning drawings, canvases and written thoughts as an act of transmutation, transforming psychic densities through fire, in order to subtract from the world what does not need to be exposed.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE RESEARCH

From these practices, an active void has become available, in which form withdraws from circular repetition — the circo-stanze — and turns toward vertical alleys, interrupting the cycle and activating a spiral movement.

Grattage becomes the necessary effort to remove the calcifications of the self, both internal and external, deposited in the pictorial matter.

In this first acentric phase, initiated in 1995, the process found expression in two series of works: Circo-Stanze and Vertical Alleys.

Within this subtraction, a foundational clarity emerges, becoming vision in the heart and light within the work. That light has grown into a constant presence — an atmosphere I have learned to recognise even in the most critical conditions — illness, loss, hostility — and which, on an artistic level, led to the second phase of Acentrism: Light Art.

The inclination toward the immaterial and the metaphysical finds structural synthesis in the development of Digital Art, understood as the third phase of acentrism.

This transition matured through a dialogue with the work of Yves Klein, in particular his Chelsea Hotel Manifesto.

The research progressively extended beyond the theoretical plane, becoming a long-term study of the Rosicrucian Cosmogony of Max Heindel, undertaken in resonance with Klein’s own path, connected to the Order in Oceanside, California.

This traversal — both speculative and experiential — reconfigured digital practice as a space for investigating the immaterial, where technology becomes a medium for direct access to the spiritual dimensions of being.

From this convergence emerged the eBook Out of the Blue: the immaterial of Yves Klein meets Acentrism, conceived as a dialogue at a distance with his Chelsea Hotel Manifesto.

Origin and formation

Following this, I conducted seven research projects, with related works and operAzioni, progressively making public the practices that led me to THE ART OF THE SPIRIT.

I write SPIRIT with intention, to indicate the Breath of Life and a universal consciousness that transcends all phenomenal duality.

Through engagement with ancient and contemporary philosophy, as well as with masters and traditions from both East and West — from Rudolf Steiner to Helena Blavatsky, from Max Heindel to Tommaso Palamidessi, and from Patanjali, Ramana Maharshi and Gurdjieff to Mère, Sri Aurobindo and Jiddu Krishnamurti — I have developed an operative hybrid grounded in meditative writing (to date comprising over thirty volumes), understood as a direct access to expanded states of consciousness and clarity.

To quiet the personality and render it permeable to the subtle constitutes the first step towards establishing a transcendent communion.

Practise and presence

The artistic act arises from this essential and non-dual relation, leading to an integrated state and to a fertile coexistence within the awareness of the All-One.

The exploration of the immaterial through digital media — the third and fourth phases of Acentrism — is accompanied in my practice by a bodily discipline grounded in the Seven Tibetan Rites, which I have followed since 1997 and which include sexual transmutation, the intonation of OM, and meditation.

This practice has fostered creative states of a solar or superconscious nature, rendering the body an increasingly conscious vehicle of experience.

Within this perspective, a space for interactive performance with the public has also emerged.

A further area of my research concerns the electromagnetic field: in collaboration with biometric expert Daniele Gullà, I intend to monitor, using dedicated technologies, the artwork’s effect on the viewer.

Ethics and responsability

Alongside its aesthetic and economic value, I consider it necessary to address the ethical value of the work, understood as the quality of the relationship between artwork and viewer.

My research is oriented towards investigating the perceptual and inner effects of the aesthetic experience — not only on a bodily level, but also in terms of nourishment, inspiration, and the reactivation of latent dimensions of being.

What the gaze rests upon enters, by osmosis, into the inner experience; for this reason, the images and processes I activate aim to generate clarity, presence, and well-being.

THE ART OF THE SPIRIT is grounded in this responsibility: every image is an act upon consciousness.

THE SPIRIT is the Breath of Life, the pure consciousness of being, beyond apparent and phenomenal duality.
