Concept: Anahata, whose Sanskrit name means “unstruck”, is the fourth chakra. Symbolically situated in the region of the heart, it is associated with the element Air and represented as a twelve-petalled lotus; its seed mantra is YAM. Its name recalls anahata nada, the subtle sound that does not arise from the impact of two bodies: an inner resonance perceived in contemplation.

In the ART OF THE SPIRIT, Anahata is the place of dynamic mediation between matter and SPIRIT. Mediation is not a neutral compromise, but a living relationship in which opposites cease to collide and begin to resonate.

The heart does not erase differences, but brings them into harmony: body and consciousness, visible and invisible, individual and universal enter into relationship without dissolving into one another. Unconditional love is the quality of this relationship: not appropriation, but a presence capable of receiving and uniting without possessing.

Anahata thus becomes the centre in which embodied life opens to SPIRIT and SPIRIT becomes active within life.
