Within Acentric Phase I, two completed series take shape, comprising twenty-four works in total: Circumstances and Vertical Alleys.
Circumstances (Italian title: Circo-Stanze) originates from a play on words that breaks down the Italian word circostanze into circo (“circus”) and stanze (“rooms”). The circumstances of life thus become, symbolically, the “rooms of a circus”: paths that follow one another, repeat themselves and return, presenting their lessons again and again until they are recognised.
The circle, apparently closed, can then open. Vertical Alleys represents precisely this possibility of interruption: openings, intuitions and forms of assistance, both material and immaterial, capable of breaking the cycle of repetition and lifting consciousness towards a new evolutionary stage. In both series, grattage does not act solely on the painted surface. Scraping, removing and moving through matter become the visual counterpart of an inner process: eliminating what weighs down perception in order to allow a freer space to emerge. The verticality of the alleys therefore indicates not only a direction in space, but also the possibility of moving beyond the circularity of circumstances. My research within Acentric Phase I remains an open territory: a gesture of subtraction and clarification that can re-emerge whenever the work calls for a return to the essential.
