Concept: Ajna, whose Sanskrit name means “command” or “authority”, is the sixth chakra in the seven-centre system. Symbolically situated between the eyebrows, it is associated with concentration of the mind, discernment and the orientation of inner knowledge. In the tantric map, it is traditionally regarded as the point at which the Ida and Pingala channels converge into the central channel, Sushumna, before the ascent continues towards Sahasrara. For this reason, it is commonly known as the “third eye”: the faculty of a vision that transcends ordinary sight.

In the ART OF THE SPIRIT, whole vision is fulfilled through com-prehension: an intuitive carrying-within, in which seeing and knowing become one. Seeing and knowing are no longer filtered through the senses or mediated by analytical, discursive thought.

The single Eye — unified vision — reunites the one who sees, the act of seeing and what is seen: the illusion of separation comes to an end. Vision no longer belongs to an individual observing reality from the outside, but to a consciousness that is part of what it sees.
