In the ART OF THE SPIRIT, this relationship becomes an image of the soul allowing itself to be guided by SPIRIT. The horse-soul retains its vital, sensitive and instinctive strength, while the rider-SPIRIT offers direction without imposing it.

Trust is the inner act that makes this alliance possible. It is not submission, but conscious attunement: SPIRIT does not dominate the soul, but guides it; the soul does not relinquish its strength, but allows that strength to be directed. Ehwaz thus represents the transition from separate will to alignment, in which movement ceases to be dispersion and becomes a path.
