Concept: Living Fulcrum 1 is the fourth in a cycle of six preparatory drawings created in 2019 for Living Fulcrum: a three-metre-diameter site-specific work with an integrated light element, conceived for the Objective Art performance-experiment Sensibile è la chiara luce… (Clear Light Becomes Perceptible…), held from 14 to 16 February 2020 at the Elisarion Cultural Centre and Museum in Minusio, Switzerland.
Inspired by Gurdjieff’s conception of Objective Art, the project investigated whether an inner state, consciously sustained by the artist throughout the creative process, could be impressed upon the work and perceived by the viewer. The final painting required thirty-three hours of focused work, preceded by two years of attention training.
The Living Fulcrum is the symbolic bud of existence: the primary nucleus that animates and sustains Life in every form. It is the point, or vortex, at which an idea becomes form, a cell becomes a heartbeat and—in a metaphor drawn from quantum physics—the probability wave collapses into a particle.
It is not a static centre, but a propulsive, superabundant fulcrum in continuous expansion: the place where everything in-Forms itself and Life exists before opposites, always and only as Life.
Within the experiment, the artist’s concentration was directed towards impressing a state of calm upon the work. Viewers were invited to suspend judgement, comparison and interpretation temporarily, allowing them to encounter clear light directly within the pulsating heart of becoming.
