MOLESKINE_Written Painting Series

A Moleskine is a bound notebook intended to hold notes, drawings and fragments of thought. In this series, it becomes an intimate and portable space of receptivity, in which inner images, words, flashes of colour and abstract forms are recorded as they surface.

The entire series is contained within a single Moleskine Sketchbook:

Drawings, writings, poems, reflections and abstractions remain bound in their original sequence: each two-page spread represents a moment within a single logbook, rather than an autonomous or separable work.

The term Written Painting refers to Yves Klein’s 1961 Chelsea Hotel Manifesto, in which he described the text as “a written painting of the short history of my art” and related it to the Monotone-Silence Symphony. Painting thus extends beyond the painted image into words, voice, duration and silence.

In the ART OF THE SPIRIT, this intuition becomes a receptive practice. Written Painting does not illustrate a previously formulated thought, but transcribes what emerges from a condition of inner silence. As in Meditative Writing, the artist brings the physical, emotional, mental and superconscious dimensions into coherence; logic and personality are not eliminated, but temporarily cease to direct the process.

Word, line, colour and form become manifestations of a single perceptual act: the invisible inscribes itself into matter and becomes visible.

The gallery images document the individual two-page spreads of the Moleskine and should be understood as parts of the artwork in its entirety.
