Series: ART OF THE SPIRIT
Dimensions: diameter 170 cm
Technique: Light Art, installation, medium-density fibreboard (MDF) hand-clad in mirror-finish Dibond, Plexiglas support structure, LEDs and origami.
Concept: STARGATE is a clock installation that counts from 0 to 12. The presence of Zero, generating thirteen positions rather than twelve, is not an error but an intentional fracture within the system of measurement.
Zero is not absence: it is the very essence of time, the pure and immeasurable present in which every event occurs. It is time–non-time.
The clock’s single hand is a mirror: it reflects the observer and draws them back to the centre of the work. The hours take the form of three-dimensional origami stars, illuminated from within by micro-LEDs. An inscription running around the clockface invites the observer to seek the Stargate within the present moment.
The conceptual core of the work unfolds in three acts. The first is the anomaly: Zero opens a fracture between one second and the next, a space that cannot be measured but only inhabited. The second is the collapse: the Stargate does not open outwards, but is activated when the observer turns inward, bringing the subject and object of vision together within the same point-instant. Measurement ceases and time is suspended. The third act is the Star: a symbol of the human being who has crossed that threshold and who, while remaining within existence, has opened up new possibilities for the evolution of consciousness.
From this matrix emerges Communio. The geometry of the Star separates from the clock and becomes an autonomous sculptural device. Through a QR code, it activates an audiovisual environment in which vision, sound, breath, silence, will and awareness accompany the viewer through an intimate process of imagination, grief and preservation of the bond with those beyond the sky.
The first virtual activation of STARGATE takes place through the video ZERO TO FOREVER, which symbolically situates the work in Trafalgar Square, London: the world in motion around a still centre, between frenzy and the suspension of measured time.
The first public and geolocated activation of Communio takes place in the woods of Aranno, near the site of a fatal accident. In the months that followed, a nearby bench and the surrounding woodland became, for the local community, a place of pause, remembrance and contemplation — a habitat for inner regeneration.
STARGATE → Communio thus traces a passage from the representation of a threshold to its lived experience: from the symbolic opening of the gateway to a concrete, situated condition of relation.
