Concept: STARGATE is a clock installation that counts from 0 to 12. An inscription running around the clockfacer than twelve, is not an error, but an intentional fracture within the system of measurement.
Zero is not absence: it is the very essence of time, the pure and immeasurable present in which every event occurs. It is time–non-time.
The clock’s single hand is a mirror: it reflects the observer and draws them back to the centre of the work. The hours take the form of three-dimensional origami stars, illuminated from within by micro-LEDs. An inscription running around the clockface invites the observer to seek the Stargate within the present moment.
The conceptual core of the work unfolds in three acts. The first is the anomaly: Zero opens a fracture between one second and the next, a space that cannot be measured, but only inhabited. The second is the collapse: the Stargate does not open outwards, but is activated when the observer collapses in on themselves, bringing the subject and object of vision together within the same point-instant. Measurement ceases and time is suspended. The third act is the Star: a symbol of the human being who has crossed that threshold and who, while remaining within existence, has opened up new possibilities for the evolution of consciousness.
